We are excited to share that the HIKE project has been featured on Tourism4SDGs.org, the platform developed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) to highlight tourism initiatives contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
What are the SDGs?
The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action adopted by all UN Member States to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. They consist of 17 interconnected goals addressing global challenges ranging from health and education to climate change and sustainable economic growth.
How HIKE Contributes
The HIKE project, launched in April 2024, aligns with several of these goals through its mission of promoting outdoor physical activity along European cultural routes. With walking events in Italy, Greece, and Türkiye, HIKE encourages participants to engage in slow, conscious, and healthy travel, while also supporting local communities and heritage sites.
By promoting a sustainable tourism model, HIKE contributes to the following goals:
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
- SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
These contributions are now recognised on a global stage through the UN Tourism platform, showcasing HIKE as a best practice in sustainable, community-based tourism.
