Piedmont Takes Center Stage in HIKE 4 ALL Events on the Via Francigena

The Piedmont Region will be at the forefront of the first series of events of the European HIKE4ALL project, led by the EAVF. This project places walking at the heart of an accessible and inclusive experience, open to everyone, including people with physical, motor, and sensory disabilities.

The initiatives will take place in the municipalities of Ivrea and Bollengo and include a rich program of workshops, walks, and inclusive activities along the Via Francigena, aiming to promote a new model of slow and accessible tourism. The two-day event will open on Thursday 17th April with the workshop “Via Francigena: Walking Towards Accessible Tourism”, scheduled at the Teatro Giacosa in Ivrea. The workshop will be a moment for discussion and in-depth exploration of accessibility, inclusion, and social innovation applied to cultural routes.

Speakers include Andrea De Vicenzi, coach and athlete, sharing his personal and sports experience; Dario Sorgato from Noisy Vision, on visual disability and inclusive perception of spaces; Luca Paiardi and Danilo Ragona from B-free, who will present the Via Francigena for All experience, a pioneering accessible walking project, with translation into sign language and English for international partners.

The day on Friday 18th April will be dedicated to outdoor activities, with two inclusive events open to everyone. In the morning, from 8:00 to 13:30, there will be an inclusive walk of about 8 km from Ivrea to Bollengo along the Via Francigena, including inclusive sports activities, a visit to the Chiesa Aperta di Bollengo, and a final refreshment. In the afternoon, from 16:00 to 18:00, there will be an inclusive urban trek in Ivrea to discover the city in an accessible and participatory way.

The Piedmont event will also bring together the project’s international partners in Ivrea for the Consortium Meeting and to share best practices from the Via Francigena. Between May and October, the project will continue on other routes in Spain, Norway, Czech Republic, Turkey, and France, strengthening a European network of increasingly accessible itineraries.
