After the events held in Italy, Norway and the Czech Republic, the HIKE4ALL travelling programme resumes this autumn, bringing its activities to Cantabria, Spain. On 25 and 26 September 2026, the Camino Lebaniego will host two days of workshops, cultural visits and inclusive outdoor activities organised in connection with the European Week of Sport.
The event will highlight the potential of cultural and pilgrimage routes to promote accessibility, well-being and social participation. Leading to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, the Camino Lebaniego offers a more intimate alternative to Spain’s busiest pilgrimage routes, combining an important cultural and religious heritage with the varied natural landscapes of Cantabria.
The programme will begin on Friday 25 September with an international workshop at the Unquera Auditorium in Val de San Vicente. Representatives of the HIKE4ALL partners will present the project and share experiences from the Via Francigena and the Saint Olav Ways. The sessions will explore accessibility and inclusion along the Camino de Santiago, as well as the role of heritage, culture and outdoor activities in creating experiences open to everyone. Associations and local initiatives will present projects dedicated to adapted sport and inclusive participation, while the day will close with the theatrical performance Manola, the Infinite Flight and a discussion with the artists.
On Saturday 26 September, participants will discover the Camino Lebaniego through a series of accessible visits and a shared walk. The day will start at the Monastery of Santo Toribio, with a multisensory visit organised in collaboration with the Association ONCE and particularly designed to welcome people with visual disabilities. Participants will then travel to the Habario de Pendes, known for its centuries-old chestnut trees and panoramic views, where guided activities will be adapted for people with different accessibility needs.
In the afternoon, the group will walk along the Camino Lebaniego from the Habario de Pendes to Potes, following a combination of paved and natural sections. The event will conclude in front of the Centro de Estudios Lebaniegos, celebrating two days of learning, exchange and shared experiences along the route.
Through this new stage of its European journey, HIKE4ALL continues to demonstrate that hiking and cultural routes can become powerful tools for inclusion, health and community engagement, creating opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to explore Europe’s heritage together.
