The 7th Annual Greek Trails Network Conference took place in the historic city of Chania, Crete, bringing together trail enthusiasts, policymakers, and tourism experts from across Greece. The event focused on promoting, developing, and preserving Greece’s extensive trail networks, highlighting their importance for sustainable tourism and cultural heritage.
Among the participants, Fivos Tsavaropoulos – General Manager of Paths of Greece – presented the HIKE project and its activities held in Greece in October 2024, when the participants hiked over 70 kilometers along ancient Via Egnatia in the area of Edessa, visiting museums, wineries, archaeological sites, and cultural landmarks, practicing sports and addressing safety and hiking matters with field professionals.
During the conference in Chania, Fivos highlighted the communication strategy of HIKE project and tools used to engage the stakeholders and the local communities into the promotion of healthy lifestyles within the safety protocols. Additionally, Paths of Greece emphasized the HIKE methodology and strategy, easily replicable by any trail manager willing to organise holistic walks focused on health, well-being and cultural discoveries.
