The HIKE project continues expanding its international network through cooperation with sister projects funded under the Erasmus+ Programme. On March 19, 2025, HIKE was showcased during the online conference organised by the fellow Erasmus+ project “Young Pilgrims of Hope,” which focuses on youth engagement in pilgrimage activities across Europe. Moderated by TGS Eurogroup and led by Don Bosco Youth-Net, the event brought together youth organisations, route associations, and pilgrimage experts from all around Europe.
“Young Pilgrims of Hope,” running from 2024 to 2025, connects nine youth organisations from Spain, France, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Malta, Slovakia, and Poland. The project provides young people with opportunities to explore Europe’s rich cultural heritage through pilgrimage routes such as the Camino de Santiago, the Via Francigena, and the Romea Strata.
The conference was organised on the occasion of the Jubilee 2025 (also known as the Holy Year), a significant event in the Catholic tradition celebrated every 25 years. During this special year, pilgrims traditionally travel to holy sites, such as the Vatican or Santiago de Compostela, reflecting on spiritual renewal and hope.
HIKE’s partner organisation, the European Association of Via Francigena Ways (EAVF), represented the project during this event. Simona Spinola, EAVF Communication Expert, highlighted HIKE’s commitment to promoting health-enhancing physical activities (HEPA) among diverse communities along significant cultural and historical routes, including the Via Francigena in Italy, the Via Egnatia in Greece, and the Tolerance Way in Türkiye. The presentation emphasised the project’s achievements in engaging younger generations in outdoor activities and cultural discovery. Additionally, collaboration with young influencers and content creators was noted as an effective strategy to reach younger audiences and enhance their participation.
