HIKE4ALL: the event in Norway along the Borgleden way

On 29 – 31 May 2026, the HIKE4ALL project brought partners, local communities, families and stakeholders in Norway for three days dedicated to walking, inclusion and shared experiences along the Saint Olav Ways.

Organised in collaboration with the Borgleden Pilgrim Centre, Borg Diocese, the National Pilgrim Centre, “Back in the Ring” Association and the ACSOW – Association for the Route of St. Olav Ways  (ACSOW), lead partner in Norway, the event gathered around 90 participants.

The programme opened on 29 May with outdoor and sports activities, including a pilgrimage walk between Ås and Vestby. On 30 May, participants took part in a conference dedicated to the project themes, exploring how walking and pilgrimage can become more inclusive and welcoming for all. Members of “Back in the Ring” also shared powerful stories of overcoming substance addiction through pilgrimage and community engagement.

The final day focused on the local community in Sarpsborg, with a walk along the Millennium Trail followed by a Family Day at Borgarsyssel Museum. This closing moment opened the project to families and the wider public, highlighting the importance of accessible outdoor experiences for local communities and visitors of all ages.

The Norwegian HIKE4ALL event was also an important opportunity to exchange best practices among international partners, with the participation of representatives from the Via Francigena (AEVF) and Camino Lebaniego. Overall, the event confirmed the strong potential of cultural and pilgrimage routes as spaces for dialogue, well-being, inclusion and participation.
